The systems that fail in July are the ones nobody looked at in April. Out here it’s usually the condenser coil packed with ag dust and cottonwood, or a system oversized for the house that cools fast and never runs long enough to pull the humidity out. We diagnose by measurement, and we size a replacement by load calculation.
Signs it's time to call
Most of this is cheap in April and expensive in July.

It's blowing, but the air isn't cold
A refrigerant leak, a frozen coil, or a compressor that's given up. Three different repairs, so the diagnosis matters more than the guess.

Ice on the copper line
Almost always airflow — a plugged filter or a dirty evaporator. Switch it to fan-only and call. Running a frozen system is how compressors die.

It runs all day and never satisfies
Some run time on a 95° afternoon is normal. All day, every day means low charge, restricted airflow, or a system never sized for the house.

The breaker trips when it starts
Usually a failing capacitor or a struggling compressor. Don't keep resetting it — every attempt is hard on a motor that's already hurting.

Water around the furnace, or a stain in the ceiling
A plugged condensate drain. Clearing it is one of the cheapest things we do; ignoring it is how a $90 call becomes drywall.

It got loud in a way it wasn't before
A screech is usually a bearing, a rattle a fan blade, a hard hum at startup electrical. All three are cheaper before they finish failing.

Questions we get asked
How often should the air conditioner be serviced?
Once a year, in spring. The big one out here is the condenser coil — ag dust and cottonwood pack it solid, and a blocked coil makes the compressor work harder for less cooling. Cleaning it is cheap. Replacing a compressor is not.
Why is my house humid even though the AC runs?
Usually an oversized system. It drops the temperature fast, satisfies the thermostat, and shuts off before it has run long enough to pull moisture out of the air. Correct sizing on replacement fixes it.
My system uses R-22. Do I have to replace it?
Not immediately, but the math changes once it needs a real repair. R-22 hasn't been produced since 2020, so what's left is reclaimed and priced accordingly. A small leak repair is often still worth it; a compressor or coil rarely is.
What size air conditioner does my house need?
It comes off a load calculation — not the size of the old one and not square footage alone. Oversizing is the most common mistake we find, and it's why so many houses are cold and clammy instead of comfortable.
Can you add air conditioning to a house with no ductwork?
Yes — ductless mini-splits. A good answer for older York homes with radiators or in-floor heat, for additions, and for shops. Each head is zoned separately.

Roughly a 50-mile radius — McCool Junction, Fairmont, Benedict, Stromsburg, Seward, Aurora, Henderson and the towns between. If you're not sure, call and ask.
