Heating here isn’t a comfort question, it’s a safety one — a stretch of sub-zero mornings turns a marginal furnace into a burst pipe. We run an after-hours line, we service gas, propane, boilers, heat pumps and mini-splits, and we’d rather catch a failing igniter in October than a heat exchanger in January.
Signs it's time to call
Most of this is a cheap repair in October and an expensive one in January.

The carbon monoxide alarm went off
Get everyone out and call 911 first — not us. This is the one thing here that doesn't wait for a service window.

It lights, runs a minute, then shuts off
Short cycling. Usually a dirty flame sensor or a limit tripping on overheat — cheap now, hard on a heat exchanger over a winter.

No heat, and the thermostat is calling
An igniter, a pressure switch, or a board holding a lockout. The furnace stores the fault code and we read it first.

It smells like burning or like fuel
Dust burning off in October is normal for a day. A fuel or hot-metal smell that lingers is not — shut it down and call.

Some rooms never warm up
Usually duct or balance, not the furnace. Worth measuring before anyone sells you a bigger one.

The gas bill climbed and the weather didn't
A furnace losing efficiency, or running longer to make the same heat. The quietest symptom here, and usually the earliest.

Questions we get asked
How often should a furnace be serviced?
Once a year, in the fall before you need it. It catches the cheap failures — flame sensor, igniter, pressure switch — before they become a no-heat call on the coldest night of the year, and it keeps most manufacturer warranties valid.
How long should a furnace last?
Fifteen to twenty years, and one serviced every fall lands at the top of that range. Past fifteen the question stops being age and becomes what the next repair costs.
What is a cracked heat exchanger?
The metal wall between the flame and the air you breathe. A confirmed crack means the furnace comes out of service that day — we red-tag it. It's one of the few failures that genuinely forces a replacement, and we'll show you what we found.
Do you service heat pumps?
Yes, including cold-climate and dual-fuel. The usual setup here is a heat pump carrying the mild half of the season with a gas furnace taking over below the changeover point.
Do you install propane furnaces?
Yes. Plenty of acreages around York County sit outside the gas main, and we do them regularly — it isn't a special order for us.
Do you work outside York?
Roughly a 50-mile radius — McCool Junction, Fairmont, Benedict, Stromsburg, Seward, Aurora, Henderson and the towns between. If you're not sure, call and ask.
