Two things decide whether you’re happy with a new air conditioner ten years from now: whether it was sized for your house, and whether it was charged and commissioned correctly on install day. Neither is on the spec sheet, and both are where a cheap install quietly costs you.
When it's time to replace
An air conditioner rarely dies all at once. These are the signs it's on the way out — better to plan the replacement in April than to buy one in a July emergency.

Questions we get asked
What SEER2 rating should I buy?
In Nebraska the cooling season is real but not Texas-long, so the highest-efficiency unit isn't automatically the best value. We'll run the payback on your actual house and utility rates. Often the sweet spot is a mid-tier two-stage system rather than the top of the line.
What changed with refrigerants in 2025?
New systems now ship with lower-global-warming refrigerants like R-454B instead of R-410A. It's a regulatory change, not something you did wrong. Practically it means new equipment isn't a drop-in match for an old line set, which is why we inspect or replace it as part of the install.
Should I replace the furnace at the same time?
If both are near end of life, yes. The indoor blower and the outdoor unit are rated as a matched pair — replacing only half means you never get the efficiency you paid for. It's also one install day instead of two.
Is a bigger unit better?
No, and this is the most common mistake in the trade. An oversized air conditioner cools the air quickly, shuts off before it has pulled the humidity out, and leaves the house cold and damp. Correct sizing is worth more than an extra efficiency point.
How long does it take?
Most residential AC changeouts are one day. Add time if we're replacing the line set, modifying ductwork, or doing the furnace at the same time.
